Santo Galatioto began piloting aircraft when he was 15 years old. He is rated in single engine airplanes land and sea and gliders. He holds a commercial pilot certificate with an instrument rating, an air traffic control certificate and the newly created remote pilot certificate (drones). He began flying hot air balloons with his first intro lesson in 1977.
Living and working in NYC, ballooning wasn’t the most convenient activity. So, it wasn’t until he left New York and in1990 that he began his journey in the LTA world. Santo flies mostly in Connecticut where he is the past president of the Connecticut Lighter Than Air Society also known as CLAS. For the last 30 years, he has served the aviation community as an Aviation Safety Counselor and for the last 18 years as the Designated Pilot Examiner (DPE), for balloons in Connecticut, Western Massachusetts, and Eastern New York.
He is a frequent presenter at safety seminars in the northeast and always makes himself available to pilots who would like to discuss various aspect of ballooning and aviation in general.
