ART / ESSAY CONTEST
IN CELEBRATION OF THE 225TH ANNIVERSARY OF THE
FIRST AIR VOYAGE IN AMERICA
Fall – 2017
Students, families and faculty will learn about local history, the start of aviation in North America and have an opportunity to demonstrate their drawing and language arts skills. Winning artwork and essays will be displayed throughout the duration of the FAVIA 225 Celebration/ 2018 Balloon Federation of America Convention. The author of the first place winning essay will be asked to read his or her essay to an international gathering of aeronauts!
Between September 1, 2017 and December 21, 2017, students in grades 1-12 may create artwork (and essays for grades 9-12) based on the theme “First Air Voyage In America”
Tiered age brackets for artwork are: grades 1 – 4, grades 5 – 8, and grades 9 – 12. Students in grades 9 – 12 may also submit an essay that best describes what the “First Air Voyage in America” theme represents to them or our nation.
Between January 1, 2018 and January 8, 2018, each participating school will judge and recognize their winners from each artwork tier and the essay category. First and second place winners will move on to the final level of judging by the FAVIA Committee.
The presentation of awards will be held during the FAVIA 225 Celebration/Convention March 22- 25, 2018 at the Hilton Philadelphia at Penn’s Landing.
